Google I/O 2021 Highlights

  • Google I/O 2021 keynote took place on Tuesday, May 18 where CEO Sundar Pichai and his team of executives announced a list of new developments
Brief

In addition to the two major product-focussed announcements, Android 12 and the new Wear OS, Google announced its progress in bringing natural language understanding with a new language model called LaMDA. The I/O keynote this year also included announcements on a smart canvas experience in Google Workspace, safer routing in Google Maps, and an enhanced video conferencing initiative called Project Starline. Google also unveiled its AI-powered dermatology tool that is designed to help people find answers to as many as 288 skin conditions — directly using the camera of their smartphones.

3 ways top brands are using connected TV to increase reach and drive results

  • During 2021, nearly 83% of households will have at least one connected TV, used by at least one person every month.
  • Beyond efficiently reaching large audiences, YouTube CTV Ads have also shown a positive influence on mid-funnel metrics, like consideration.
Brief

By pairing the precision of digital with the scale of linear TV, CTV gives brands the best of both worlds. In December 2020, for example, over 120 million people in the U.S. streamed YouTube or YouTube TV on their TV screens. A recent Google study commissioned with Nielsen found that 26% of the time, multiple viewers ages 18 and over are watching YouTube together on the TV screen, compared to 22% who watch together on linear TV. Starting this year, U.S.-based advertisers can measure their YouTube CTV campaigns through third-party provider, Nielsen. Another readily available tool is Brand Lift, which measures the effectiveness of YouTube CTV Ads across brand metrics, such as awareness, recall, and consideration.

Introducing new insights for Reels and Live

TLDR
  • On May 24, Instagram launched insights for Reels and Live.
Brief

Instagram is rolling out several updates to Insights products that will help creators and businesses better understand and evaluate their performance on Instagram. For Reels, Instagram will show new metrics including Plays, Accounts Reached, Likes, Comments, Saves, and Shares. For Live, Instagram will show Accounts Reached, Peak Concurrent Viewers, Comments, and Shares. They will also be including these metrics in Account Insights to provide a broader picture of how Reels and Live shape an account’s performance. Instagram also released transparency breakdowns as a form of new detailed information about Reach in Account Insights.

Over the coming months, Instagram will also begin rolling out new preset time frame options in Insights, expanding beyond the last 7 and 30 days and will also begin supporting Insights on desktop.
